Updates and new blog direction!

It’s been a little while since I’ve posted. There are a few different reasons, a major one being my social media fatigue, but, quite frankly, I just don’t love skincare/makeup and beauty as a whole as much as I used to. Beauty has been the focus of my blog since the beginning, so with this loss of interest, I was feeling pretty uninspired to create any content at all, and considering whether to shut down this blog and my IG account.

When I first started blogging about beauty products in 2016, I thought I was going to be doing it forever. I was in love with skincare and makeup, loved trying new makeup looks, sharing my own skincare routine and reading about others’ routines as well. It’s been a form a self care and self expression for me for all of these years, but over the years, I’ve become someone who doesn’t wear makeup in her day-to-day, and this year, I’ve drastically minimized my skincare collection and simplified my skincare routine too.

I still enjoy trying a new product every now and then, but overall I just don’t find new product releases all that exciting anymore. Late last year and earlier this year, I was still buying new stuff to try, even though I was already feeling this way. Especially with my efforts to live more sustainably, it felt so wasteful purchasing new products to use or even to open products I had already purchased. It felt a little contradictory to all of my other efforts to minimize my waste and my spending.

I’m not quite at the point where I’m comfortable with the amount of beauty products I own, but I’ve decluttered a lot and have been good about only purchasing replacements for things I actually use. I’ve pared down my skincare routine drastically - since I don’t wear makeup on a typical day, I can get away with doing my routine just once a day. Typically, I’ll wash my face at night and follow with toner + eye cream + face oil and/or moisturizer. If I’m feeling extra, I’ll include an occasional serum and even less occasional face mask. Once I use up what I have, however, I plan to cut serums out of my routine as well.

As for makeup, I’ve done a ton of decluttering, and I think I’m in a good place. I’ve figured out what type of products work for me and what I’ll actually use when I buy it. Eventually, I want to get to a place where, besides eyeshadow and lip products, I only have one item per category at all times.

Of course, this more minimal approach is only possible for me now because I fell in love with skincare and makeup in the first place. Skincare taught me how to take care of my skin, and makeup taught me to be comfortable in my skin, whether with a full face of makeup on or bare-faced.

So, with all of this in mind, where is my blog going? I’m going to continue blogging about everything else that I’ve always blogged about and put more focus on fashion and sustainability, as that’s where most of my passion is nowadays. I want to start posting on Instagram again too, though that will come about more gradually.

I’ll be traveling to Denmark at the end of the month, so I’ll have some content focused on that trip coming up soon!
